Kansas City-based flutist Mary Jamerson has enjoyed a varied career as a performer, teacher, and arts administrator. She regularly performs in orchestral, chamber, and solo recital settings. As an orchestral player, Mary has held positions as Flutist and Piccoloist for the Liberty Symphony, the Northland Symphony, and the Heritage Philharmonic, and has also performed with the Kansas City Symphony and the Topeka Symphony.
Mary earned her Master of Music degree from the University of Missouri Columbia, where she studies with Alice K. Dade. During her masters studies, she was flutist of the Mizzou New Music Ensemble, an ensemble dedicated to the performance of music by student, faculty, and established living composers. Mary has also studied with Elaine Brown (William Jewell College), Mary Stolper, and Mark Sparks (DePaul University). She received her Bachelor of Science in Music degree from William Jewell College.
An enthusiastic teacher, Mary teaches for Harmony Project KC, a music program based in Northeast Kansas City. She has also spent the past six summers working with students at the Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Door County, Wisconsin. Mary also maintains a private flute studio, teaching students of all ages and ability levels, and enjoys acting as guest speaker and coach for high school and junior high music students.
Mary is an eager traveler and student of the world, and an avid reader. She also takes great pleasure in occasionally conquering the Saturday New York Times Crossword Puzzle.
